About Me

My name is Daniel Connolly, I am an architect at map-lab in Boston.

I believe that for the rate of construction and development in Panama, there is very little conversation or criticism of the built environment. I found it amazing that very few Panamanians were aware that Frank Gehry was building a new museum right in the center of the city!Panama-08-08- 437

The intent of this blog is to generate interest about the current state of architecture, planning, and design in Panama as well as create new ideas for the future. Please contact me if you would like to join this discussion!

All seems very inviting for a future tourist. But, how does one get about PTY without renting a car? Is there an adequate public transport system?

    Thank you.

John – I would not suggest the public transportation in Panama City for tourism, only for longer trips outside of the city. Public Transportation within consists of only buses, with no clear routes or schedules. Driving is also very hectic!! Taxis are very inexpensive for getting around in the city, and would be my choice. This is not ideal for such a large and modern city, but supposedly a metro system is in development…. let’s hope!! :-)

    Hello, Daniel.
The new government is working really fast on the new metro system and on the public transportation system at the same time, as well. There’s hope, I think! :)
Of course, there is a lot more to do, but at least they’ re beginning on doing something.
As a panamanian leaving abroad (Brasilia) I have to read a lot from the local newspapers to keep updated with what Panama is doing to organize itself.
By the way, do you have any connection with Panama? Are you Panamanian?

    Best regards,

    Enrique
